What to Do When Your Mind Wanders: Before we continue with the other steps, let's address a topic that everyone inevitably deals with during meditation: wandering thoughts. This happens to everyone, regardless of whether you’re using a guided audio or meditating on your own, and it’s also one of the most common reasons people stop committing to themselves. It’s important to understand that wandering thoughts are completely normal, especially as a beginner. When you notice this happening, don’t judge yourself or become frustrated. This is not a failure - it’s a normal part of training your mind. Instead, gently bring your focus back to your breath, your heart, and/or the emotion you're cultivating. Think of your mind like a puppy learning to follow commands. When it strays, you don’t spank it; you lovingly and patiently guide it back. Each redirection strengthens your ability to focus and deepen your practice. Step 4: Begin with Your Breath If you are using a guided meditation: simply follow the instructions provided by the audio - it will guide you through the entire meditation from start to finish, making it easy to stay focused and aligned with the practice. If you’re meditating without a guided audio: start your meditation session by closing your eyes and gently turning your attention to your breath.
